What to Expect at The Recovery Village Columbus

The decision to enter addiction rehab can be life-changing. Learn what to expect so you can confidently start treatment and get your life back.

Checking In to Inpatient Rehab

Admission times are scheduled when you call to ensure each person arriving at our facility gets the full attention of our care team. Not arriving on time may cause a wait time.

To ensure the safety and sobriety of all patients, each resident must consent to a search of their person and belongings upon their arrival. During this search, staff members will collect any items not permitted during treatment and store them in a safe and secure place until your stay is over. Additional random searches may be conducted throughout your time at The Recovery Village Columbus.

COVID-19 Notice

The Recovery Village Columbus is taking proactive steps to ensure the health and safety of all patients, employees and the communities we serve. We are following the latest CDC recommendations for controlling the spread of COVID-19, including testing and enhanced sanitation protocols.

Our Treatment Process

Patients at The Recovery Village Columbus start in a treatment program best suited for their needs, then may step down to lower levels of care as they progress through their care plan. Treatment often begins with a medical detox, followed by either inpatient or intensive outpatient care.

Length of Stay

Your length of stay may vary depending on your program, personalized treatment plan, recovery progress and insurance coverage. In general, clients may receive:

  • 7–10 days of medical detox
  • 45–60 days of rehab care, including medical detox

Will I be forced to stay in treatment?

We encourage all patients to complete their treatment plan in full, as leaving medical care too soon can lead to relapse and overdose. However, patients can choose to leave treatment at any time, even against medical advice, as long as they are not a danger to themself or others.

Living at the Facility

Now that you’ve decided to begin treatment at The Recovery Village Columbus, it’s time to prepare for your stay.

What to Pack

This packing guide ensures you have everything you may need while you’re with us, so you can focus on what’s really important — healing.

Preparing Your Job for Your Rehab Stay

If you’re considering using FMLA benefits to protect your job while you’re in rehab, it’s really important to start the process as soon as possible, even before you arrive for treatment. You’ll need to contact your employer to start the paperwork required for FMLA. To protect your privacy, you only need to say you’re seeking medical treatment.

Travel Arrangements

Wherever you’re coming from, our Recovery Advocates make sure you arrive at our center safely and on time. You can book and confirm travel on your own or we can help coordinate travel arrangements with you. We can also arrange pick-up to and from the airport, bus stations or train stations.

Sleeping Arrangements

Rooms at The Recovery Village Columbus offer a comfortable place to rest during your recovery. Rooms are usually shared with one other client; sharing with a peer in recovery fosters critical fellowship during a difficult time. Each room has its own sink and an adjoining bathroom for a total of four people per bathroom. The number of residents in each room may vary depending on your individual treatment stage and care needs.

Food & Nutrition

Our facility features a full cafeteria managed by our onsite chef. Typically, a few different meals will be available for breakfast, lunch and dinner, including vegetarian and vegan options. Each delicious and nutritious meal is designed to bolster clients’ physical and mental health as they recover. Snacks are also provided. No outside snacks or meals are permitted in the facility. If you have any food allergies, let us know prior to your arrival so we may accommodate you.

Housekeeping & Laundry

Clients are responsible for keeping their rooms clean and doing their own laundry to nurture independence and accountability. Certain housekeeping services, like removing trash and providing fresh towels, are provided.

Phone Policy

Cell phones are securely stored upon arrival for the safety and privacy of all clients. This also helps clients focus on healing by avoiding distractions and keeping their stay confidential. Following an initial safety call with family, patients have a 72-hour cell-phone-free period. Following this period, all personal phones will receive a red security strip covering the camera. The red security strip shall not be tampered with in any manner. If the security strip is tampered with in any manner, the patient’s phone may be removed from the patient’s possession. Patients may not bring their cell phones to group therapy sessions.

Smoking Policy

Residents at The Recovery Village Columbus may take periodic smoke breaks during designated times. The timing and frequency of these breaks is determined by your treatment plan. If you smoke, we encourage you to bring enough new unopened cigarettes, vape or black and mild’s for the length of your stay. All vapes must be disposable and labeled as Pure Nicotine with no additional additives. There will be no opportunity to charge these products. Smoking cessation products may be offered during your treatment. Chewing tobacco, e-cigarettes, pipes and pipe tobacco are not permitted. Please note: patients under the age of 21 will not have the opportunity to purchase tobacco products during their stay. Our staff is not able to provide or purchase tobacco products for patients under the age of 21.

Family Visits & Therapy

During treatment, it’s important to rebuild relationships with loved ones. Some may benefit from long-distance or virtual family treatment, while others may need in-person visits. Family therapy visits are generally offered as clinically appropriate.

Offsite Visits

While your treatment takes place at our Columbus facility, there may be offsite opportunities available, including additional support group meetings and recreational visits. Offsite visits are determined by your level of care and medical needs.

Insurance and Your Obligation During Treatment

Nearly all health insurance plans require you to pay some out-of-pocket costs in order to access your healthcare benefits (collectively, the “Patient Responsibility”).

Your individual Patient Responsibility will vary.

An intake coordinator will review your Patient Responsibility with you when you’re admitted or as soon as you are medically stable. They will explain the deductible is due during admission and that the co-insurance amount and out-of-pocket balance will be bill and paid for once services are complete. Onsite financial counselors will review your financial responsibility again during treatment with case managers who can help you navigate FMLA and short-term disability.

It is your responsibility to check with your insurance provider prior to admitting at The Recovery Village Columbus to make sure you understand your individual benefits plan. Please note that your insurance plan may not be a “participating provider” with The Recovery Village Columbus. You are responsible for all non-covered and out-of-pocket costs related to your treatment stay.

Your Privacy Is Important to Us

The Recovery Village Columbus recognizes your right to privacy. We hold each person’s confidentiality in the highest regard.

Upon arrival at The Recovery Village Columbus Drug, Alcohol and Mental Health Rehab, each patient is given the opportunity to complete all necessary releases of information to allow staff to discuss important information with necessary others for continuity of care. No information will be disclosed to any party without prior written consent of the patient, following all HIPAA guidelines and requirements.
