Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) combines FDA-approved medications with behavioral therapy and counseling to treat substance use disorders. MAT is considered the gold standard of care for opioid use disorder and has strong evidence for alcohol use disorder treatment as well.

At The Recovery Village Columbus, MAT is integrated into our comprehensive treatment programs. Our physicians prescribe and manage medications as part of an individualized treatment plan that also includes therapy, counseling and support services.

  • Disulfiram (Antabuse) to create an unpleasant reaction when alcohol is consumed, serving as a deterrent.

Our medical team determines the most appropriate medication based on your substance use history, medical needs and treatment goals.

MAT and Behavioral Therapy

Medication alone is not sufficient for lasting recovery. At The Recovery Village Columbus, MAT is always combined with evidence-based behavioral therapies including CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, group therapy and individual counseling. This integrated approach addresses both the neurological and psychological dimensions of addiction.
