Columbus has one of the most active recovery communities in the Midwest, with hundreds of AA and NA meetings weekly across Franklin County and surrounding areas. Meetings are free, open to anyone with a desire to stop using, and available at nearly every hour of the day.
Finding Meetings
Central Ohio Group Fellowship (AA) maintains meeting lists at aacentralohio.org. Central Ohio Area of Narcotics Anonymous lists meetings at centralohiona.org. Both offer meeting-finder apps. Meetings are held in churches, community centers, hospitals, and recovery clubhouses across the city. Online and hybrid meetings are widely available.
What to Expect
Open meetings welcome anyone; closed meetings are for people who identify as having the problem. Speaker meetings feature one person’s story; discussion meetings invite sharing. Newcomers are welcomed, not pressured. You can attend without speaking. Anonymity is a core principle.
Sponsorship and the Steps
A sponsor is an experienced member who guides a newcomer through the twelve steps. Working the steps is the program’s core practice. Many people find the structure and community sustaining for decades.

12-Step and Treatment
The Recovery Village Columbus offers 12-step meetings during residential care and connects patients with home groups in aftercare planning. Clinical treatment and peer support work together. Patients on MAT should seek meetings that welcome medication. See 12-step vs. non-12-step and SMART Recovery.
