Where to Get Naloxone in Columbus
Project DAWN (Deaths Avoided With Naloxone) sites across Franklin County distribute free naloxone kits with training. Columbus Public Health and Franklin County Public Health offer kits. Ohio pharmacies dispense naloxone without a prescription under a statewide protocol — CVS, Walgreens, Kroger, and independent pharmacies. How to Use Naloxone
Narcan nasal spray: tilt the head back, insert the nozzle in one nostril, press the plunger. If no response in 2 to 3 minutes, give a second dose in the other nostril. Call 911 immediately — naloxone wears off in 30 to 90 minutes and the person can re-overdose. Fentanyl overdose may require multiple doses. Place the person on their side. Stay with them.
Xylazine
Xylazine (“tranq”), increasingly found in Ohio’s fentanyl supply, is not an opioid and does not respond to naloxone. Give naloxone anyway — it reverses the fentanyl component — and provide rescue breathing. Call 911.
